August 2015 Newsletter

Welcome back to GYDA! The teachers and I are thrilled to have you back and to welcome some new faces to our dance family. We have another great year coming up and are excited to work together to make it excellent!

August 2015 Newsletter

Staff: Our teaching staff remains the same this year with myself (Ms. Abby) teaching ballet, tap, jazz, and company classes Monday-Thursday. Ms. Dana will be in on Tuesdays to teach tap and jazz and company classes. Ms. Nicole will be in Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays to teach ballet, pointe, lyrical, acro, and company classes. Ms. Rosie is our assistant teacher again and may also sub this year! You will see her taking classes many days and helping out whenever possible. We are happy to welcome Ms. Leah and Ms. Lauren (some of our alumni) back to our sub staff. We are looking at starting a Dazzling Dancers (see below) class for dancers with disabilities and will welcome Ms. Jamie on to be a co-teacher with Ms. Abby for that class. Mrs. Ginny will be our receptionist on Mondays, Mrs. Michelle on Tuesdays, and Mrs. Jessica on Wednesdays/Thursdays.

New This Year: This year we are hoping to have a class specifically for dancers with disabilities! If you know someone who would like to join this class, pass on our info or give their info to a receptionist. Pricing for classes has stayed the same this year however private lessons have raised from $20/half hour to $30/half hour. One more new change for the year—this year all jazz dancers need tan jazz shoes! I will have a sizing kit for dancers who wish to purchase them through the studio. The kit will arrive in September. If your current jazz shoes still fit and are black that is fine—but by our June recital all jazz dancers will need tan SLIP ON shoes. This will help provide a uniform look—and make dancing legs look longer.

August Payment: August payment is for a HALF MONTH. Take your regular tuition and split it in half. Your payment is due at your first lesson of the month.

Nutcracker: Each year we put on a charity Nutcracker ballet which is a smaller performance than our yearly summer recital. For our Nutcracker, dancers pay a $60 performance fee which includes costume rental. To make this easier, we sell ads for our program (ad forms will be released upon signing up). If your dancer has a class outside of their regular practice time, they run $5/half hour. Most practices will run a half hour in length. We are looking at a show for December 5, 2015. An informational parent meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30pm. Nutcracker is open to any dancers ages 3 and older who are currently in ballet. Sign-up in the hall at the studio!

Calendar Look Ahead

Sept. 7: Closed for Labor Day
Nov. 24-29: (Tues-Sun) Closed for Thanksgiving Break

Dazzling Dancers!

For about a year now I have had an itching desire to start a special needs dance class. Waiting for the timing to be right and for some research to be done, I knew that last year wasn’t the year to launch the class. This year my best friend got married and moved to Collinsville—and she’s been a special education teacher for the past three years. Kids with disabilities have been her passion in the teaching field and having grown up as a jazz and tap dancer, she is just as excited as I am to launch this class. Now that she lives close and GYDA has a new dance year beginning, we are so excited to get this new class started!

If you know someone who has a school-aged student who has a disability or special need, we would love for you to pass on our information. We will be having a free trial class on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Call or email us today to reserve your spot!
