Labor Day: The studio will be closed on Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. September payment is still a full month’s payment due to August having 3 lessons, and paying for 2 lessons. This extra lesson was factored into September.

Nutcracker: Did you miss our Nutcracker meeting or forget to sign up? It’s not too late! Send the studio an email and we will add you to the list and place you accordingly 

Payment: Remember, September’s payment is due at your FIRST LESSON of the month and is considered late after the 10th. Payments made after the 10th should include a $15 late fee.

Italian Fest: There are two opportunities for non-company dancers to perform for Italian Fest Weekend. Read below for more details.

  • Friday September 18:

For any dancer currently enrolled in jazz, we have an opportunity for you to perform in front of a stage at 5:30pm. There are two practices involved for this, at $8 each. Tuesdays September 8 & 15 we will practice from 7-7:45pm at the studio. Both practices are mandatory to be able to perform. You will receive a note with details at your first practice. Wear dance clothes and bring jazz shoes! Sign up in the hall today!

  • Saturday September 19:

Calling ALL GYDA dancers! We are looking for dancers to ride in a trailer pulled by a truck (a “float” if you will). This is any current dancer at GYDA. The only cost to you is two LARGE bags of candy per dancer. Please wear a dance costume (if you are a first year dancer let me know and you may borrow one) and comfortable shoes.

Older dancers may be asked to walk and throw candy or carry our banner. We will also need parents to supervise the float, toss candy, and pass out flyers. Parent helpers should wear a GYDA shirt or bright pink or black. Sign up in the hall today!

Jazz Shoes: Beginning September 8th you can have your dancer’s jazz shoes fitted and purchased through GYDA!

Platinum Package: New this year! We are offering a PLATINUM PACKAGE for those dancers who are looking for a more committed dance schedule. In your package you will have 3 half hour private lessons a week (one including a lesson for a solo for recital that will have the option to compete if wanted.) This is a great option for dancers who would like more one-on-one time with the teacher or for dancers who are looking for a more serious dance approach. Email the studio today to find out pricing and to schedule your lessons!

Shoe Reminder: Ballet shoes should be PINK for girls (black for boys), Jazz shoes should be tan and tap shoes should be black! Thanks! 🙂

Welcome back to GYDA! The teachers and I are thrilled to have you back and to welcome some new faces to our dance family. We have another great year coming up and are excited to work together to make it excellent!

August 2015 Newsletter

Staff: Our teaching staff remains the same this year with myself (Ms. Abby) teaching ballet, tap, jazz, and company classes Monday-Thursday. Ms. Dana will be in on Tuesdays to teach tap and jazz and company classes. Ms. Nicole will be in Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays to teach ballet, pointe, lyrical, acro, and company classes. Ms. Rosie is our assistant teacher again and may also sub this year! You will see her taking classes many days and helping out whenever possible. We are happy to welcome Ms. Leah and Ms. Lauren (some of our alumni) back to our sub staff. We are looking at starting a Dazzling Dancers (see below) class for dancers with disabilities and will welcome Ms. Jamie on to be a co-teacher with Ms. Abby for that class. Mrs. Ginny will be our receptionist on Mondays, Mrs. Michelle on Tuesdays, and Mrs. Jessica on Wednesdays/Thursdays.

New This Year: This year we are hoping to have a class specifically for dancers with disabilities! If you know someone who would like to join this class, pass on our info or give their info to a receptionist. Pricing for classes has stayed the same this year however private lessons have raised from $20/half hour to $30/half hour. One more new change for the year—this year all jazz dancers need tan jazz shoes! I will have a sizing kit for dancers who wish to purchase them through the studio. The kit will arrive in September. If your current jazz shoes still fit and are black that is fine—but by our June recital all jazz dancers will need tan SLIP ON shoes. This will help provide a uniform look—and make dancing legs look longer.

August Payment: August payment is for a HALF MONTH. Take your regular tuition and split it in half. Your payment is due at your first lesson of the month.

Nutcracker: Each year we put on a charity Nutcracker ballet which is a smaller performance than our yearly summer recital. For our Nutcracker, dancers pay a $60 performance fee which includes costume rental. To make this easier, we sell ads for our program (ad forms will be released upon signing up). If your dancer has a class outside of their regular practice time, they run $5/half hour. Most practices will run a half hour in length. We are looking at a show for December 5, 2015. An informational parent meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30pm. Nutcracker is open to any dancers ages 3 and older who are currently in ballet. Sign-up in the hall at the studio!

Calendar Look Ahead

Aug. 26: Nutcracker Parent Meeting at the studio, 6:30pm
Sept. 7: Closed for Labor Day
Nov. 24-29: (Tues-Sun) Closed for Thanksgiving Break
Dec. 5: Potential Nutcracker Date
Dec. 22-Jan 3: (Tues-Sun) Closed for Christmas Break

Dazzling Dancers!

For about a year now I have had an itching desire to start a special needs dance class. Waiting for the timing to be right and for some research to be done, I knew that last year wasn’t the year to launch the class. This year my best friend got married and moved to Collinsville—and she’s been a special education teacher for the past three years. Kids with disabilities have been her passion in the teaching field and having grown up as a jazz and tap dancer, she is just as excited as I am to launch this class. Now that she lives close and GYDA has a new dance year beginning, we are so excited to get this new class started!

If you know someone who has a school-aged student who has a disability or special need, we would love for you to pass on our information. We will be having a free trial class on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Call or email us today to reserve your spot!

Recital Fee-Just a reminder that there is a $60/family recital fee due this month for students who are participating in our June 11, 2015 recital. You should include your recital fee with your March payment, by March 10th.

Movie Night: At the request of some of our younger dancers, we will have a Movie Night on Friday March 13 from 5:30-8pm. Also at the request of some of our dancers who are outgrowing our former age, I’m extending the age range for this movie night for 3 year olds-4th grade. Movie Nights are $5/child and dancers are allowed to bring friends. In addition to the $5, they should bring a snack to share with the group. We will dance and then watch the movie and eat snacks! Sign up in the hallway if you’re interested!

Intro Acro Session: For the months of April and May we are looking to have an intro to Acro 8 week session. The class will meet on Thursdays from 7-7:45 and would bump your current pay scale up the appropriate hours (i.e. if you take a 2 hour class and add this acro class, your bill would go to the 2hr 45 minute payment for April and May). This is a non-recital class.

This class is for dancers ages 4 and older who are interested in tumbling, flexibility, and the unique style acro has to offer. Please sign up in the hallway if you’re interested.

Looking Ahead: Our Spring Break will be Tuesday March 31-Sunday April 5. Dance will resume Monday, April 6. Madagascar & Tarzan All Cast Rehearsal #1 will be April 17.

Hair: Please make sure you send your dancer to class with their hair already up and away from their face—this includes long bangs they may push out of their face. I have stocked ponytail holders and bobby pins at the studio if you get to dance and realize you have forgotten these items to do so, I’m happy to help!

Benefit Concert: On Sunday, March 29 our dance company will be performing along with two other local studios to raise money for a precious little girl, Grace who has a rare genetic disorder, INAD (infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy). This performance will take place at Greenville First Christian Church (1100 Killarney Dr. in Greenville, IL) at 2:30pm. Admission is a love offering—so you may pay what you feel led to. We’d love to have you come out and cheer us on and help us raise money for little Grace!

Recital:

I wanted to remind everyone that our recital is set for THURSDAY, JUNE 11 with Dress Rehearsal/pictures in the morning/afternoon, and our shows in the evening. Our youngest students will be doing “Madagascar” and our oldest students will be doing “Tarzan”.

Studio News:

Although I mentioned it on our Facebook page, some news hadn’t made it to the newsletter just yet. If you get the chance, congratulate Miss Dana (Mon./Tues. teacher) on her engagement and Mrs. Michelle (Wed. receptionist) on the birth of her beautiful baby girl this past January. We are so happy for both of these wonderful women!

New Class:

Welcome, students in our new Monday 5:30-6:30pm class! This is a 3-5 year old class that will be in our June recital. We have two spaces left if you know someone who would like to join, as well as a waiting list for a new class as well (which will *not* be in the recital)

Intro Acro Session:

For the months of April and May we are looking to have an intro to Acro 8 week session. This is a non-recital class. This class is for dancers ages 4 and older who are interested in tumbling, flexibility, and the unique style acro has to offer. Please sign up in the hallway if you’re interested.

Recital Fee:

Just a reminder that in March there is a $60 recital fee PER FAMILY (not per dancer) due with your monthly payment. Please write a separate check for this, or if paying with cash put it in a separate envelope. Checks may go together in the same envelope. This fee helps cover the cost of the facility rental, scenery, and more!

Dance ‘N Desserts:

Great job to our company girls on their performance at Dance ‘N Desserts February 22nd in O’Fallon! They performed 6 routines and did a fantastic job.

Looking Ahead:

January 2015 Newsletter

January 2015 Newsletter

Happy New Year! The teachers and I are so thankful for the gifts & wishes you blessed us with this Christmas. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break with their families. I am so excited to announce this year’s recital themes and other plans for the year.

RECITAL 2015:

Our 2015 recital is potentially set for Thursday June 11. I am waiting for confirmation on which auditorium we will have, but we will either be at Belleville West or East High School. Dress Rehearsal & pictures will be held during the morning/afternoon that same day at the same location. Our older students will be in one show, and our youngest students in another. Each show will begin with a variety show of solos, duets, group dances and more that are unrelated to our themed shows this year.

2015 THEMES:

  • Older Students: Our older students will be putting on a production of Tarzan! This is a great story of learning who you are in life and meeting new people.
  • Younger Students: Our youngest students will be putting on a show using the music from the various Madagascar movies! This will be a fun show of animal characters with familiar music along with some music true to the movies.

COSTUME FEE:

If your dancer is participating in either of our themed shows, they will have a $65 costume fee due January 10. Wednesday 5-5:30pm acro has an additional $65 costume fee due. Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm has a special note about their costuming. Pointe class should look for a note at your next class with your pointe costume information. For those of you in our Tarzan and Madagascar shows, your dancer will wear the same costume for every dance (ballet & tap or ballet, tap, & jazz)—which saves quite a bit of money!

PARKING:

Please note the reserved spot on the far right side in our lot. This is a spot for the tenants that live above the studio. Thanks!

SIBLINGS:

One reason we love GYDA is because it’s a family. To help our family run as smooth as possible, I ask that we all chip in to be extra considerate about our surroundings including keeping doorways open and as uncrowded as possible between classes, picking up food and other messes we leave behind, and monitoring the studio candy that is given out to siblings throughout the night. Non-dancers should only be eating studio candy AFTER their sibling’s class if their parent believes they behaved while waiting. I love having so many people who feel at home in the studio and consider it an honor to see you each week!

PAYMENT:

Don’t forget-payment is due by the 10th of each month! Please include your $15 late fee if you pay after that date. Thanks! 

BAD WEATHER POLICY:

In the event of bad weather (snow, ice, tornadoes, etc.) we will change the voicemail on the studio phone by 2PM to confirm closing. If possible we will also send out an email and update our website letting you know if the studio is closed. If bad weather is to occur during studio hours rather than the daytime, please call the studio to confirm if we will stay open the remainder of the night before coming to class. Missed lessons due to the weather cancellations can be made up in a similar class and do not count against your perfect attendance records.

This payment is due with monthly payment no later than January 10.

Christmas Parties: Monday ballet/tap/jazz dancers will have their Christmas parties on December 22nd. Dancers are invited to bring treats to share with the class. Acro classes will not have a gift exchange, but are welcome to bring treats for a party. Grace Dance Company, Mon. 5:45-8:15, and Mon. 6-8pm dancers will have a $10 Secret Santa exchange on the above dates and will NOT do the regular $5 gift exchange.

Christmas Parties Dress Code: We invite dancers to wear holiday shirts or ugly Christmas sweaters to your dance class party! These should be worn on top of regular dance clothes. Other festive wear is welcome. 🙂

Invoices: Invoices are going out soon! Ms. Abby is trying to make sure all accounts for 2014 are paid in FULL before the New Year starts  If you have any questions about your invoice please send Ms. Abby an email or inquire with Ms. Ginny on Tuesday night. If an error has been made, please have check copies ready for us to see! Thank you! 🙂

Variety Show Sign-Up: Dancers interested in performing a solo, duet, trio, or small group in our 2015 Variety Show (the “pre-show” before our recital) should sign up for a practice slot this week. Practices begin in January. Dancers will need to bring a copy of their music to leave at the studio and a $65 costume deposit for this special routine, and they will pick out their costume at their first practice. Most practices meet for a half hour every other week from January-May. The cost per half hour is $20 for a solo, $10 per dancer for a duet, $7 per dancer for a trio, or $5 per dancer for a small group of 4 or more. Some dancers prefer to meet every week for a half hour, or every other week for an hour—please occupy these slots on the correct pages when signing up. Participation in our Variety Show is completely OPTIONAL!! Performing a routine in a show like this is a great way to showcase your dancer’s hard work and talent! Also, this gives the dancers the chance to have a say in their costume, song choice, and even choreography preferences. Practice slot sign-up will be on the counter in the kitchen area.

Poms: If your dancer is between the ages of 4 and 10 years old and is interested in adding a pom class to their schedule, please sign up in the hallway. This sign up is to generate interest only, as dates and times haven’t been set yet. Pom classes are a half hour in length and will add to your monthly rate accordingly. Pom classes will begin either in January or February and the class will require an additional costume fee (typically less expensive than the $65 down payment for our main show)

Please bless others during this holiday season by bring MANY of all items!

If your dancer is interested in performing a solo/duet/trio or gathering a small group of friends for a group dance for our 2014 Variety Show in our recital, you will need to sign up to pick out your practice slot, costume, and give Ms. Abby a copy of your music.
